My engagement was SEO specialist only — I was not involved in web development. My role was to audit the existing large site, identify all technical and content SEO issues, develop a comprehensive strategy targeted at driving qualified B2B leads from organic search, and implement the optimisations across the full 100+ page site in a structured, prioritised way.
The challenge
What a 100+ Page B2B Tech Site Actually Needs from SEO
Large B2B technology websites present SEO challenges that are fundamentally different from small business or e-commerce sites. With 100+ pages across multiple product categories, industry verticals, CRM integrations, UK location pages, and area code guides — the risk of crawl budget waste, duplicate content, keyword cannibalism, and inconsistent on-page signals is significant. The VoIP Shop needed a systematic, enterprise-level approach.
Critical
Keyword cannibalism across product pages
Multiple pages targeting the same or overlapping keywords — "VoIP phone system", "cloud phone system", "hosted phone system", "business phone system" — competing against each other and diluting ranking signals instead of consolidating authority on the strongest pages.
Critical
Thin content on industry and location pages
20+ industry-specific pages (dental VoIP, vet VoIP, school VoIP, care home VoIP) and 28+ location pages (London, Manchester, Birmingham) had template-level content with minimal differentiation — not satisfying search intent for sector-specific or location-based queries.
High priority
Missing schema across high-value commercial pages
Product and service pages lacked Service schema, FAQPage schema was absent from the FAQ-heavy homepage and product pages, and LocalBusiness schema was incomplete — missing rich result opportunities in competitive UK B2B telecoms search results.
High priority
Lead conversion pages under-optimised
The "Get a Free Quote", "Plans & Pricing", and service-specific CTA pages were not optimised for the high-commercial-intent search queries that would drive qualified B2B leads — missing the critical connection between ranking and converting.
High priority
PSTN Switch-Off — missed urgency keyword opportunity
The BT landline switch-off (2027 deadline) represented a major time-sensitive commercial opportunity — UK businesses actively searching for VoIP alternatives. Existing PSTN content needed strengthening with targeted keyword strategy around "BT switch off", "PSTN switch off 2027", and migration-related searches.
Opportunity
AI VoIP — emerging category with low competition
The newly launched AI VoIP pages (AI Receptionist, AI Voice Agent, AI Answering Service) were an emerging category with relatively low organic competition — ideal for building topical authority early and capturing search demand as AI phone systems became mainstream for UK SMEs.
Site architecture
100+ Pages — The SEO Scope in Full
The VoIP Shop website is one of the largest B2B telecoms sites I've worked on. Understanding the full architecture was the first step — mapping every page category, identifying which pages drove commercial intent, and building the SEO priority matrix before writing a single title tag.

The 6-Phase Enterprise SEO Strategy
1
Deep Technical Audit — 100+ Page Crawl & Issue Prioritisation
Conducted a comprehensive technical SEO audit of the full site using Screaming Frog, Ahrefs Site Audit, and Google Search Console. Crawled all 100+ pages and produced a prioritised issue matrix covering: crawl errors and indexation problems, duplicate and near-duplicate content across overlapping product pages, canonical tag configuration, page speed and Core Web Vitals scores across key commercial pages, internal linking gaps between high-authority pages and commercial targets, XML sitemap completeness and accuracy, robots.txt issues affecting crawl of important pages, and mobile usability issues on product and landing pages. The audit output was a tiered action plan — Critical → High Priority → Medium → Low — giving the client and development team a clear implementation roadmap.

2
Keyword Cannibalism Resolution — Mapping 100+ Pages to Unique Keywords
The biggest immediate ranking risk was keyword cannibalism across the Phone Systems section. Built a full keyword-to-page mapping document for all 100+ pages — identifying where multiple pages competed for the same queries and defining a clear content differentiation strategy. Assigned unique primary keywords to each page and restructured internal linking to pass authority to the designated primary page for each keyword cluster. For example: /voip-phone-systems (primary: "VoIP phone system UK"), /business-phone-system (primary: "business phone system"), /hosted-phone-system (primary: "hosted phone system UK"), /cloud-based-telephone-pbx-systems (primary: "cloud phone system") — clearly distinguished, internally cross-linked, and individually optimised.

3
On-Page Optimisation — Title Tags, Meta, Headings & Content Across All Key Pages
Rewrote and optimised title tags and meta descriptions across all high-priority pages — Phone Systems (30+ pages), AI VoIP (5 pages), Industry pages (20+), Broadband pages (14), and the Big Switch Off content. Every title was engineered to: include the primary target keyword in a natural, compelling format, communicate the unique value proposition of that specific page (not generic), stay within 60 characters for full SERP display, and include a conversion signal where appropriate (e.g. "Get a Free Quote", "UK-Based", "from £13.95"). Also rewrote H1 headings across all pages to match the keyword intent, restructured H2/H3 hierarchies to target secondary keywords and FAQ-format queries, and strengthened body content on thin industry and location pages with unique, relevant copy targeting sector-specific buyer intent.

4
Schema Markup — Full Implementation Across Product, FAQ, and Local Pages
Implemented comprehensive JSON-LD schema markup across the site. LocalBusiness schema on homepage and contact pages (business name, address — Dock 3 Office 103 30 Exploration Drive Leicester LE4 5JU, phone numbers, opening hours). Service schema on all 30+ phone system and broadband pages with service name, description, areaServed (UK), and provider entity. FAQPage schema on the homepage (15+ VoIP FAQs) and on all major product pages — enabling rich FAQ result appearance directly in Google SERPs, improving click-through from informational VoIP queries. Product schema on pricing-relevant pages. BreadcrumbList schema sitewide for navigational clarity. This schema overhaul was a significant ranking accelerator for UK B2B telecom queries where rich results are scarce among competitors.

Lead Generation SEO Strategy — Connecting Rankings to B2B Enquiries
The unique challenge of B2B SEO is that rankings alone are not the goal — qualified enquiries are. Built a lead-focused SEO strategy that optimised every commercial page with the full buyer journey in mind. Identified the five highest-converting page types (Free Quote, Plans & Pricing, industry-specific VoIP pages, Big Switch Off, and CRM Integration pages) and prioritised them in the SEO action plan. Optimised these pages for high-commercial-intent search terms like "business VoIP quote UK", "VoIP phone system pricing UK", "PSTN switch off solutions", and "dental VoIP phone system" — queries from buyers who are actively evaluating providers. Ensured every optimised page had a clear, prominent CTA (Get a Free Quote form, Call Sales: 0116 402 2222) strategically placed to capture intent. Also optimised the homepage lead capture form for conversion — the "Thevoipshop Quote Form" visible above the fold on the homepage.

UK B2B Link Building — Industry Authority & Backlink Acquisition
Executed a targeted link building programme to strengthen The VoIP Shop's domain authority in the UK B2B telecoms sector. Outreach covered: UK technology and telecoms industry publications, B2B SaaS and cloud computing directories, healthcare IT publications relevant to the NHS partnership and GP VoIP Connect product, education technology sites supporting the school and college VoIP pages, UK business directory submissions (Yell, Yelp UK, FreeIndex, industry-specific B2B directories), and editorial link placements through the site's informational blog content (PSTN switch-off guides, VoIP vs landline comparisons). Also leveraged the NHS Approved Supplier status for credibility-based link building from healthcare and government technology websites — a unique authority signal that few UK VoIP competitors could replicate.

The B2B Lead SEO Approach — Turning Rankings into Enquiries
For B2B technology businesses, organic traffic that doesn't convert to qualified enquiries is wasted. Every SEO decision was made with the lead pipeline in mind — identifying which pages attract buyers (not just researchers), and ensuring those pages were both ranking and converting.

"Enterprise B2B SEO is not about chasing a list of keywords — it's about understanding the architecture of a large site, resolving the internal issues that prevent good content from ranking, and building a clear path from organic search to qualified commercial enquiry. For The VoIP Shop, with 100+ pages across Phone Systems, AI VoIP, Industry verticals, CRM integrations, and Location pages, the most valuable work was systematic: audit first, map the keyword universe, eliminate cannibalism, then optimise every page for its unique purpose. That's how a large B2B site turns SEO investment into actual sales pipeline."
